Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 21, 2026
Somnia is an iPhone app made by Autana Solutions ("we", "us"), based in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. This policy explains what the Somnia app and the Somnia web pages at autana.ca/somnia collect, and what we do with it.
The short version
- Your health data is read and analysed on your iPhone. The current version of the app doesn't send it to us or anyone else.
- We never sell health data, and we never use it for advertising or marketing.
- The app contains no third-party analytics or advertising software.
- If you join the beta on our website, we keep your email and the answers you give so we can contact you about Somnia.
Apple Health data
With your permission, Somnia reads data from Apple Health. That includes sleep analysis (sleep stages), heart rate and heart-rate variability, blood oxygen, activity, workouts, mindfulness sessions and the other categories shown on the permission screen. You choose which categories to allow, and you can change that at any time in the Health app under Sharing → Apps → Somnia.
Somnia uses this data only to show your metrics and to calculate your sleep baseline, habit effects and experiment results. Apple Health data is processed on your device. It isn't used for advertising, it isn't sold, and it isn't shared with third parties. If you pair a supported Bluetooth ring or watch, Somnia may write respiratory-rate estimates from that device to Apple Health.
Data you enter in the app
Your nightly habit check-ins, experiments, sleep diary and questionnaire answers are stored in the app's private storage on your iPhone. Your device's own iCloud or encrypted backups may include them, depending on your settings. Deleting the app deletes this data from the device.
Bluetooth wearables
If you connect a supported ring or watch over Bluetooth, the measurements it sends (such as sleep, heart rate, blood oxygen and HRV) are stored on your iPhone and used the same way as your Apple Health data.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, Somnia schedules them on your device: a daily check-in reminder, a note when your first insight is ready, and a note when an experiment finishes. You can turn them off in iOS Settings.
Purchases
Subscriptions and one-time purchases are handled by Apple through your Apple ID. We don't receive your payment card details. The app checks with Apple whether you have an active purchase.
Beta sign-ups on our website
When you join the beta on autana.ca/somnia, we collect your email address, your first name if you give it, which wearable you use and which option you picked. We use this only to contact you about Somnia: beta access, launch news, your reserved price or your requested report. We store it in Autana Solutions' systems, and our team receives an email notification for each sign-up. If you ask for a personal report and send us sleep data, we use that data only to prepare your report and delete it within 90 days of sending the report, or sooner if you ask.
Our web server keeps standard technical logs (such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested) for security and troubleshooting.
The Somnia web page (not the app) uses the Meta Pixel, a cookie and script from Meta Platforms, to measure our ads on Facebook and Instagram. It tells Meta that a browser viewed the page and whether a beta sign-up was completed, along with standard technical details such as IP address and browser type. It does not send your email, your answers, your wearable or any sleep or health data. You can block it with your browser's tracking or cookie settings, or manage ad preferences in your Facebook or Instagram settings.
The page also uses Google Analytics, a service from Google, to count visits and see which links bring people here. It sets Google Analytics cookies and sends Google the page viewed, the device and browser type and an approximate location derived from the IP address. It does not receive your email, your answers or any sleep or health data. You can opt out with Google's browser add-on.
We also measure the page with our own script: which pages are opened, how long they are actively on screen, how far they are scrolled, which buttons and links are pressed, the site or ad that sent the visit, and the device and browser type. It sets an ms_vid cookie with a random ID and never records what you type, your answers or any sleep or health data. Only our team sees it, and it is deleted after 180 days. If the cookie notice is shown and you choose Only necessary, it does not run.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to access, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, or to stop emailing you, by writing to [email protected]. We handle personal information in line with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act.
Children
Somnia isn't directed at children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information.
Changes
If a future version of Somnia sends any data off your device (for example, an optional coaching feature), we will update this policy and ask for your permission in the app first. We'll show the date of the latest change at the top of this page.
