How it works

One habit. Fourteen nights. A real answer.

Generic tips like "cut caffeine, cool the room" are on every blog. Somnia tests them against your own deep sleep, one change at a time.

1

Your baseline, on day one

Somnia reads the last 30 nights of sleep stages already in Apple Health. No new hardware, no phone under your pillow.

2

Five-second check-ins

Each morning, tap what you did last evening: alcohol, a late meal, caffeine after 2pm, an evening workout, a warm room.

3

Run an experiment

Change one habit for 14 nights. Somnia compares your deep sleep against your baseline and tells you how confident the result is.

Your result, in plain language

Not a score. A finding.

Every result shows the number of nights behind it and a confidence label: Strong signal, Likely or Too early to tell. Somnia sets a deliberately high bar so it doesn't hand you coincidences dressed up as insights.

By night three you get a first read on how your logged nights compare with your baseline. That first read is labelled early, not conclusive.

Questions

Honest answers

Can a wearable really measure deep sleep?

Not perfectly. Wrist and ring sensors estimate sleep stages, and none matches a sleep lab. But they're consistent from night to night for the same person, and that's what an experiment needs. Somnia compares you with yourself, not with a lab or with other people.

Which devices work?

Anything that writes sleep stages to Apple Health: Apple Watch, Oura and Whoop are the main ones. If you wear two, Somnia counts overlapping deep sleep once instead of adding it twice.

How sure are the results?

Each result shows how many nights it's based on and a confidence label. Somnia uses a stricter threshold when it scans all your habits at once, because testing many habits at the same time makes chance findings more likely. Habits that usually happen together, like alcohol and a late dinner, are flagged so you can separate them with an experiment.

Where does my data go?

Your Apple Health data is read on your iPhone and your check-ins and experiments are stored on it too. We don't sell health data or use it for advertising. See the privacy policy.

Is this medical advice?

No. Somnia is a wellness tool for experimenting with everyday habits. If you think you have a sleep disorder such as insomnia or sleep apnea, talk to a doctor.
